Bandai Namco’s latest revelation is a thrilling surprise for fans of the Tekken series. Heihachi Mishima, the mustachioed malevolence, is set to rise from the dead and join the roster of Tekken 8 as the next DLC character.

This announcement, made during Evo 2024, has sent shockwaves through the community, reigniting the excitement for this legendary fighting franchise.

A Legendary Return

Heihachi Mishima is no stranger to Tekken fans. Known for his brutal fighting style and intricate family feuds, he has been a central figure in the series since its inception.

His presumed death in Tekken 7 at the hands of his son, Kazuya, left a significant void. However, as the saying goes, nobody truly stays dead in the world of Tekken.

This autumn, Heihachi will make his grand return, complete with a powerful play style that fans have come to love.

New Story Chapter

In addition to Heihachi’s return, Bandai Namco has announced a new chapter in the story mode.

This is a first for the series, which traditionally focuses on character-specific episodes. The extra story content will delve deeper into the ongoing feud between the Mishima and Kazama families.

It’s an exciting addition that promises to provide more context and depth to the Tekken narrative.

DLC Characters and Story Integration

Heihachi follows the recent additions of Eddy Gordo and Lidia Sobieska as DLC characters.

Interestingly, this new story chapter will feature these three fighters, allowing players to explore their interactions and motivations further. This integration of new characters into the storyline is a refreshing change and adds significant value to the DLC content.

Nike Collaboration

Another unexpected announcement at Evo 2024 was the collaboration between Nike and Tekken.

This includes in-game gear and the Nike Air Foamposite One Kazuya Mishima sneakers. A trailer showcased various Tekken characters sporting Nike sneakers, blending the worlds of gaming and fashion in a unique way. Evo attendees were even able to purchase these exclusive sneakers via the SNKRS app.

Evo 2024 Highlights

Evo 2024 in Las Vegas marked a historic moment for esports, becoming the largest competitive tournament in history with over 10,224 players from 63 countries.

Tekken 8 was a major highlight, drawing significant attention alongside other big titles like Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1. The Tekken 8 finals saw a tense match between Arslan Ash and Atif Ijaz, demonstrating the high-level competitive play that fans have come to expect from Evo.

Future Prospects

Bandai Namco’s decision to bring back Heihachi was driven by fan demand and the team’s own affection for the character.

According to executive producer Katsuhiro Harada, the initial plan was to kill off Heihachi in Tekken 7 to provide a conclusive end. However, the feedback from players and the team’s own sentiments led to his resurrection in Tekken 8.

Series director Kohei Ikeda hinted at Heihachi’s gameplay, emphasizing his powerful play style and the intriguing involvement of monks in his storyline.
