While chili peppers have woven themselves into some brown kids’ DNA, others experience earthly hell when eating the characteristically spicy food. The following are the major categories under which ABCDs fall:

The Bland Browns:

At one end of the spectrum, there are the Desi children who have the spice tolerance of newborn babies. The pungent flavor of Cheez-its is likely to bring tears to their eyes. By virtue of their hypersensitivity to flavor, these individuals have no taste and thus prefer food that is just like them. Examples of favorite meals may include raw paneer, boiled chicken breast, and plain tofu. Even a dash salt or pepper may be too intense. These individuals are truly anomalies, and their culinary habits beg the question, “Are you really even brown?”

The Yogurt Lovers:

If you can’t take the heat, run to the kitchen and grab some dehi. Possessing the classic ABCD (American-born confused Desi) pallet, these children can only take so much spice before they call for the cool, creamy embrace of yogurt. Like flamingos, these children experience an internal color change based on their diet. The sheer quantity of yogurt dilutes the inherent spice and results in a more “Westernized” brown kid.

The Spice, Spice Baby:

This group has a pretty high spice tolerance. Although they may not snack on habaneros, these individuals embrace the heat of typical subcontinental cuisine. Notably, they flock to the spicier versions of Western cuisine and other snacks. But while they do take on the spice, spice, occasionally they can be babies. Understandably, this group will have to tap out at ghost pepper curries and Carolina Reaper potato chips.

The Junkies:

This group is the complete opposite of the first. Every single meal, whether it be breakfast or dessert, is drowned in hot sauce. With seemingly endless spice tolerance, these individuals have an immunity to spice that is unparalleled. Its idea of a fun night out is shots of straight-up hot sauce. Typically, their consumption of Scoville units per day is higher than that of calories. At this point, a junkie’s blood type doesn’t fall under the typical scale; rather, Sriracha and Tabasco flow through their veins.
