I’m Tony Otto and This Is How I work
- Location: Austin MN
- Current Gig: National Account Manager at Hormel Foods
- One word that describes how you work: Thoroughly
What apps/software/tools can’t you live without? Why?
I recently got all of my email accounts on to my Iphone in one place. If I had known it would be so easy, I would have done it years ago. I have 4 active email addresses, and I always had to bounce between apps or websites to catch my emails. It is so much easier to be mobile when everything is in one spot!
What’s your best time-saving shortcut/life hack?
Besides the above comment about my email, one other thing I do to save time is cutting my own hair, and keeping it really short. That way I never have to make a special trip to the barber, and never have to fuss with my hair in the morning.
What everyday thing are you better at than everyone else? What’s your secret?
That’s a tough question, but I would say “showing up.” I try really hard to eliminate any excuses that would prevent me from being where are need to be, and doing what I need to do. This has really worked for me in life so far — From playing on a football team that I had no business being on, to moving up in the workplace even though I have no better skills than anyone else.
What do you listen to while you work?
A weird combination of gangsta rap (2pac, Bone Thugs, Nas) and hard rock like Korn and Linkin Park.
What are you currently reading?
Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters Devotional by Meg Meeker.
Are you more of introvert or an extrovert?
I don’t even know any more. I love to go out with friends and meet new people, but I also love to hide in my house and watch movies by myself.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
A college friend of mine recommended that I read the book “Total Money Makeover” by Dave Ramsey. Reading this book helped my Wife and I get on the same page financially, become debt-free, and create a plan for our future together. It was literally a life changing bit of advice.
Where do you find inspiration and new ideas?
I’ve found that a lot of creative and bold ideas tend to surface during happy hour. It is also a place where you can get very candid feedback.
What kind of leader are you?
I’ve always lead by trying to get group consensuses, perhaps to a fault. I am not always confident enough to be decisive until I am really comfortable with the subject matter, and have all the surrounding background information. I’m working on that. Sometimes you need to just pick a direction and go!
Is there anything else you’d like to add that might be interesting to readers?
The only other thing I would call out is that I love lifting weights, running, golfing, and playing pick-up basketball. Sometimes we get so busy with life that these simple pleasures get pushed aside. Don’t let that happen! Even on the worst day of work, if I can get a little exercise in, the day doesn’t seem so bad.
