MBA Mama recently learned about Rachelle Ford’s dedication to her child’s passion for literature. Mrs. Ford is a mama of four children, a writer, and publisher. In her latest project, Mrs. Ford is more than excited to help her youngest daughter Jada with the launch of her first written publication, Happy Birthday Sapphire. In an interview with MBAMama, Mrs. Ford shares a little about herself and her daughter, discusses the vision behind the project, her daughter Jada’s passion for reading, and what the dynamic duo hope to achieve with the book, Happy Birthday Sapphire.

Holding a degree in Business Management and Marketing, Mrs. Ford is a writer, and the owner of Ford Johnson Publishing. Mrs. Ford was born and raised in Port au Prince, Haiti, and moved to the United States when she was 14 years old. Beginning in 2009, Mrs. Ford also ran her own entertainment magazine called Ford Entertainment Magazine, until February 2017. Her latest project and focus is ensuring the success of Jada’s new book.

Jada Marie Ford is Rachelle’s youngest child, and author of Happy Birthday Sapphire. “She is a gifted student, scoring in the 99th percentile on her last gifted test,” Mrs. Ford gushed. Jada loves unicorns, reading, and the color pink. In her new book Happy Birthday Sapphire, readers follow the journey of Sapphire, a donkey that grows up in a petting zoo, and read about one donkey’s journey to success, no matter how humble one’s beginnings might be.

The project all began with a casual conversation between mother and daughter. As Mrs. Ford was editing and formatting a book project for a client, Jada mentioned how ‘cool’ she thought it was that her mom was a publisher, and expressed her hope that her mom would remain one in the future, so she might be able to help her when she wrote her own book. Seeing her daughter’s genuine interest in writing, the devoted mother told Jada that there was no need to wait, and that she could help her publish her book now. “That same day, while riding in the car on our way to a birthday party, Jada asked me to turn on my voice recorder, then proceeded to tell me her story about Sapphire,” Mrs. Ford said. “We spent the rest of the evening at home as well as the next day going over her story, editing and typing it up. A couple weeks later, I was looking at a completed copy of Happy Birthday Sapphire!”

The book is ‘funny, magical, and inspiring’, according to mama Ford. “The animals have humorous conversations and it’s magical because at one point, it rains glitter, and then skittles in the book!” Mrs. Ford admits. More importantly, the book is inspiring, as it is the product of a nine-year old finding the motivation, focus and drive to pursue her interests and complete her first book. With Happy Birthday Sapphire, Jada and her mom hope to relay the message that ‘no matter your current situation, you never know what magic lies in your future’.
