Major GMAT Changes Announced: Win for Test-Takers
The Graduate Management Admissions Council® (GMAC®) has announced major changes to how scores are reported as well as the length of time allowed between re-takes. This announcement follows last year’s user-friendly change that allowed test-takers to see their score before canceling. Those of us who took the GMAT with the blind score option ran a huge risk of canceling a good score or worse, submitting a low score. It was like a weird game of Russian Roulette. It is great to see GMAC listening to test-takers and implementing changes in the best interest of MBA candidates.
Rather than waiting 31 days to re-take the GMAT, candidates now only have to wait 16 days. According to mba.com, “this allows candidates the flexibility to retake the exam within a shorter period of time in order to accommodate their schedules, study habits, peak performance times, and/or school deadlines.” Even though the re-take period has been decreased, test-takers still cannot exceed five GMAT exams within a 12-month period. The 16-day re-take period is especially helpful if you know the exam material well but had an off-day or if you’re aiming to meet your dream school’s application deadline and just want to take another shot at raising your GMAT score.
GMAC has also updated their Cancelled Score Policy (hums to the tune of Beyonce “Upgrade You”). As of July 19, 2015, GMAC score reports will not show the scarlet “C” indicating that a candidate cancelled a GMAT score. GMAC cites a survey of more than 3,000 students wherein 85% of respondents indicated that they would like to see the “C” removed from their score reports. You asked and GMAC has answered.
