Manila Javascript’s 32nd Meetup was hosted and sponsored by mClinica last January 24, 2019. With over 80 participants the office was jam-packed with a mix of working professionals, and students.

Jake Josol with his talk on “Introduction to TypeScript”

The event hit off with the talk of Jake Josol, Software Services Division Lead, on “Introduction to TypeScript”. Jake started his talk with the question “What is your Type” which was a question to the attendees whether or not Typescript is for them. With the talk focusing on showing the pros and cons of Typescript, this raised a few questions with the attendees at the end of the talk which was also answered promptly.

You can find out more about Typescript on this link.

John Ian Biligan with his talk on “Testing REST APIs with Chakram”

Next on the line was John Ian Biligan, QA Automation Engineer, with his talk on “Testing REST APIs with Chakram”. John Ian explained how unit tests help with development. After doing so he previewed how to structure the folders on a Chakram project. Finally, he did a demo, using a few test scenarios and showed us the generated results made by Chakram.

Sarah Jane Mojica with her talk on “JOI Validation Library”

Lastly, with Sarah Jane Mojica, Software Engineer talked about the “JOI Validation Library”. Sarah’s presentation was concise but straight to the point. She demonstrated how the library worked with a few code snippets and ended her talk by doing a live demo of Joi using repl.it.

You can find out more about Joi on this link.

At the end of the day, all topics that were discussed relates to the quality of your software. Quality code by using Typescript, quality API by testing it with Chakram, and quality validation by using Joi. The event ended in a good note, attendees asked questions, shared food, and made connections. All in all, I’d say it was a successful event.
