mClinica hosts the Philippine I.T. Security Forums (PHITSF) 2nd Meetup, last November 23, 2019. More than 70 attendees from different backgrounds participated in the event.

The meetup starts with a greeting from the PHITSF Admin and followed by Grzegorz Frydrychowicz to introduce mClinica’s mission and vision, and the product of the company to the participants.

Data Privacy 101

Jake Josol, the Data Privacy Officer of mClinica, discussed how important data is.

“Data is the new Oil. But trust is the new currency”

Data is so important that its insecurity may cause a company’s downfall. Therefore Jake elaborated on the proper collection, usage, and disposing of someone’s data.

WiFi Vulnerabilities and Internet of Things

Bryan Angelo Aglipay informed the participants about how the WiFi works and how it can be vulnerable.

Bryan Angelo Aglipay, the Chief Affiliate Manager of Digital Defenders Cybersecurity IT Solutions

WiFi is widely used by machines and devices, and now the Internet of Things (IoT) is emerging. We now have smart televisions, home automation, smart glasses and many more and they have one thing in common, they have the capabilities to connect to the internet using WiFi, that is why it is an easy target for the attacker.

Attacking Human Interface Devices aka BAD USB

Jonelle Castañeda shows the participants how HIDs can be easily hacked and controlled easily.

Jonelle Castañeda, Sr. .NET Software Engineer at Lanworks Pte. Ltd.

Jonelle used devices that can be bought online:

  • Teensy 3.2
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W

And software:

  • Arduino IDE for Teensy
  • Kali Linux (P4wnP1 ALOA)

All you have to do is to use these devices with runnable scripts to your targetted machine, and you may control and exploit it remotely.

Attacking Active Directory

Al Francis shares about what and how to gain access to the active directory.

Al Francis, an Information Security Analyst

Active Directory contains a lot of important data of the system/organization like the domain, user information, container, print queue, organizational unit, policy, generic object, site link & bridges, sever, IP subnet, and many more. Therefore, gaining access to this directory can be harmful to the company.

He also demonstrated the step by step process on how to do it using a virtual machine.

Of course, everything gets better with 🍕🍕. Thank you mClinica for sponsoring these happy boxes!

PHITSF 2nd Meetup was indeed a successful event. We had great feedback from the participants, they enjoyed the friendly environment, they connect with other participants, and they absolutely learned a lot from the speakers.

We would like to thank everyone for participating in the meetup, especially the volunteer speakers and organizers for sharing your time and effort with the community. And of course, we are very grateful to mClinica for sponsoring and hosting the meetup.
