MCS 164: Social Media Education Visual
- “Life Through the Lens of Technology”: The main idea I got from this course is that most of us are living our life through our technology. Whether that’s a positive or negative, it’s still up for debate. This picture represent the generation of snapchat and instagram user who need to look at the world from a different angle from time to time. (upcoming picture will explain why)
2. “The Face of Capitalism”: Just when you think the internet is a great place to be social since it’s free, capitalism is waiting for your precious information. This picture shows the power of capitalism and its control over all of our social media platform.
3. “A Slave to Technology”: To technology companies we are the consumer and a slave to their technology. We consume while they make profit and take over our lives. The girl is surrounded by the technology that she possessed wondering if she’s making the right choice or is she just helping capitalism of digital labor.
4. “The Date With My Phone”: Online dating could be the only way to find a significant other for this digital age. Dating app such as tinder, grindr, okcupid, etc. guarantee you can find what you are looking for. They are a simpler way to meet new people, they change the way we find love. But are they safe? A text on the screen doesn’t tell you their emotion or their intentions.
5. “Community Building Made Easy”: Even though there are negative side to social media, we shouldn’t forget the social that it brings, even if it’s not a true social platform. This is a picture of a group of muslim blogger at the event Perfect For Her, a modest fashion show. This picture remind me of the movie Chicago Girl, and how she work as a hub for the people in Syria and help them organized protest and such. These women you see in the picture might not be organizing a revolution but they are making a different in terms of fashion for Muslim women. This show the power of social media and how it can play a crucial role in creating community all around the world.
