Looking for your next family outing? Why not go to DeSoto Caverns? These natural wonders will leave you admiring their beauty while marveling at the nature that created them. DeSoto Caverns are in Childersburg, Alabama, just a short drive away from Pell City. You can find them at 5181 DeSoto Caverns Parkway. The park and caverns are open on Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. On Sundays, they’re open from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Tickets

There is more to do than just see the caverns themselves at DeSoto Caverns, and the ticket price depends on what you plan to do during your visit. If you just plan to go on the cave tour, the current price is $24.99 for adults and $19.99 for kids. Attraction passes are $4.99 each, but you get one free if you buy four or get three free if you buy seven. You can also get a dollar off the meal price if you buy it with your ticket. Bundling attraction passes with cave tours saves money, and there are annual passes available for future discounted rates on attractions and cave tours.

History of the Caverns

DeSoto Caverns is actually the very first cavern on the record in the country, since presidential agent George Stiggens wrote to President Washington about it in 1796. There are regular cavern tours hourly, including its history and information about caverns in general. The history of the cavern goes back more than 2,000 years.

Other Attractions

In addition to the caverns, there are 20 different interactive attractions above the ground. Rest your feet while you ride the Destiny Express for a train tour, then try your luck with Gemstone Panning or the Crystal Find. Those who are unafraid of being spun about will love DeSoto’s Gyro Extreme, or you can stick to something tamer, like the Rock’n Roll. To test your brain, enjoy DeSoto’s Lost Trail Maze or the Squirt Gun Lost Trail Maze. Other highlights include the pedal go-karts, a water balloon battle, and a cave wall climb.

You Can Camp On-Site

Those who want to take their time exploring can also camp at DeSoto Caverns. There are RV hookups and free wireless internet. Campers can choose whether to visit the caves and other attractions. There are also nearby wooded areas to explore.
