In June, mct officially released Japanese-language versions of five mct-original templates in Miro’s Miroverse, where you can download public templates to use on the online collaborative whiteboard application. The five Miro board templates include:

The two Playful Workshop boards can be used not only for design-related workshops, but also other activities such as training workshops.

This template allows you to customize a set of training practice activities with a high degree of freedom. It’s a board that we often use at the start of the project, and as a place to explain how to use Miro.

  • From …To Exploration Canvas

This template can be used to help think about implications of current trends and future signs. This work frame originates from the book 101 Design Methods by Dr. Vijay Kumar, Professor at the Design School of Illinois Institute of Technology.

  • Value Mix Design Workshop

This template can be used to analyze and formulate strategies for companies and brands. Created by mct, the “Value Bloom Canvas” looks like a flower in bloom. These boards can be further used for other purposes such as Miro practice, workshops, and exhibitions.

Top Ranking on Miroverse’s Japanese Channel

Of the five templates, the Playful Workshop boards are currently ranked as the top two most used templates on Miroverse (Japanese). Actually in January 2021, mct already released the English-language versions of these templates on Miroverse, with the Playful Workshop (Continental Theme) board boasting over 1.9k downloads to date.

“We’ve received many good comments about our templates,” said Michiru Watanabe, one of the key designers of mct’s Miro templates. “About one year ago, I got feedback from a person in a French company. He held a big conference by using our template. There were about 100 people who joined and it turned out to be a good success. They sent us a thank you email. I felt very happy and motivated.”

“Actually, we were referred to by Miro Europe & US first before releasing Japanese templates in the Miroverse because our templates has had a really good feedback.’’ said Shoko Strang, Customer Success associate in mct.

The success of mct’s Miro templates can be seen as the result of coherent teamwork by mct members who address creativity, user experience and originality.

“When we started using Miro, I felt a little uncomfortable. Because the way we used it at that time was simply to replace real work. It was not a unique online experience, but just degraded real work,” explained by Akihiro Yonemoto, on how he quickly saw the need for designing our own templates. “When I saw one of the other company’s examples, I realized that the unique point of Miro was the impression of huge space. And then, the idea of zooming in and out like using a map was born.”

It took Yonemoto san several weeks to test the first board prototype, but he believes it would take less time for future boards.

“Playful, flexible, and well-designed”

Watanabe san concluded, “Playful, flexible and well-designed are the three main features of mct’s Miro templates. I want to make it fun, and easy to replace any parts of the template to make it more flexible. It took me some effort to think about the design and coloring in order to show a world view,” she said.

“I think the basis of everything is the UX design. It is important to think about the comfortable and exciting Miro experience from user’s point of view rather than the provider,” added Yonemoto san, ‘Playful’ has always been a familiar and important keyword for mct. It does not just mean fun, but also includes the meanings of ‘addicted’ ‘meaningful’ and ‘excited’.”

Playful Workshop (Continental Theme)

As one of the hit boards in Miroverse, the Continental board features four continents floating in the sea, each with their own topic. “In the actual seminar, lectures and group discussions can be held in order from the upper left (the continent of the beginning) → the lower right (the continent of practice) → the lower left (the continent of discussion) → the upper right (the continent of ideas),” said Watanabe san.

“The whole process of the seminar is expressed on a map and the worldview as if you are traveling around. By making a fun board whether you look at it or operate it, this Miro board infill incorporates a different ‘excitement’ into the online seminar.”

Well-designed Miro boards suit better remote work

Ever since mct rolled out the work-from-home hybrid style, Miro has been frequently used as a tool for teams to work on projects internally and with clients. At the end of 2020, mct was the first Japanese company certified as “Miro experts”.

“I think Miro is a part of facilitation and management. Well-designed Miro boards make it easy to facilitate and manage the team. So I think structure and strategy is an important factor for designing a Miro board,” Yonemoto san said.

“Miro now has become a symbol of mct. I think remote work should be more valued in the future, especially among Japanese companies. We want to change values and norms about work style and business culture. I believe that Miro is becoming an icon of such a movement of change and I believe Miro will lead the movement of change.”

Watanabe san concluded, “If I have a chance, I will create more. I always want to create good templates. Our goal is to have a good workshops and good facilitation for projects. I think this is the most important thing and I want to work towards achieving it.”

Maintaining the sense of creativity and teamwork among members, while also adapting to changes in business and work styles is something mct has been pursuing since our beginning in 2002. This dedication is not only to help our own employees grow by taking on more challenges, but also to serve outside clients in the future.
