How does Syoban Action play with video game expectations?

Syoban Action also known as Cat Mario ruin user’s expectations. Syoban Action is a prototype of well known Mario game, therefore we expect to see same rules in the game. However, most of the things works totally different. Syoban Action is full of innocuous-looking objects that suddenly kill the character. For example, mushroom in the game works just like in original game. The character becomes bigger when he gets it, but suddenly the ground under his feet falls down and the character die.

I spite of all, the game allows players to memorize obstacle’s locations and make progress in the game.
