Boss Battle from “I Am Setsuna”

RPG is an acronym from Role Playing Game, where you decide on which choices your protagonist makes and how the protagonist interacts with his/her environment. A Turn-Based RPG consists of what would be considered a more “casual” play style, where the characters that the player controls each have some time to perform a move from a menu, one by one. In this play style, there is an equal amount of move distribution and is generally more slow-paced as a result.

What makes this my favorite genre is how slow-paced it is. The reason for this is due to indirect immersion that these games produce. The slow-paced action of TBRPGs (Turn-Based Role Playing Games) allows for the player to decide on an action without having to make one on the spot, but it allows for careful planning. The leveling system in TBRPGs deliver an important incentive to progress and put your strategies into practice, giving us an incremental boost with every level which (depending on the player) can result in the development of more possible strategies or in the player not requiring any strategies (due to power increments).

Ultimately, the player’s choices after the way the protagonist’s environment interacts with him/her and is responsible for every outcome in an RPG, and the turn-based system adds a layer of complexity to every battle: This is why Turn-Based RPG is my favorite game genre.
