A technology always evolves. New ideas, devices, products appear every day. Technologies effect every single industry and game design is not an exception. It transforms not only an idea of the game and how complicated it might be but also how we interact with a game.

Everyone is familiar with the game Pong, right? Pong is one of the earliest arcade video games. It is a digital version of table tennis that user see as a 2D graphics. The game was originally manufactured by Atari(1972).

Today Pong is not just an old game or museum piece. Students from Imperial College of London developed a new version of Pong, which is a perfect example of technology and the game industry relationship. The idea that British students came up with is an eyes controlled game. How it works? Simple. A Webcam attached to the glasses uses infrared light to track the movements of an eyes. And then program translates it to the movements of a rectangular paddle on a screen.

I think technological progress has already changed the way of game evolution. User’s interaction stepped on a new level where people not just play a game but even experience complete immersion into virtual world. And as I said before the new version of pong is a great example of the relationship between game and technology. Interaction with even really simple game like Pong nowadays is more than usual usage of mouse or keyboard.
