We’ve just pushed out a couple of updates to the apps that we’re excited about. Here’s all of the core improvements that can be found in the latest versions of the app (2.9.2 on iOS and 1.5.1 on Android).

Improved search with autocomplete

Search is one of our most popular feature requests. Whether you want to quickly find a recipe, search for particular ingredients, or have a craving for steak (for example), search helps you find what you’re looking for, fast.

Our latest improvement to search is autocomplete — we now suggest words we think you’re looking for so you can select them without having to type the whole word. You can also use autocomplete as a discovery tool, as you can see other suggested options that may sound particularly tasty.

Here’s how it works:

This improvement to search is available on both iOS and Android. To give it a try, please open up the app and do the following:

  1. Head over to Settings, then Eating Preferences
  2. Select Advanced under the header Meal Planner
  3. Build a new meal plan by tapping New on the Meal Plan screen
  4. Tap the search icon in the upper right hand corner of the meal plan builder

We think this is a great improvement to the search feature, and we hope you do too! Let us know if you like it or not in the comments below, or by emailing us at hello@mealime.com.

Reminders to keep you on track

We’ve just begun to dip our toes into the world of reminders / push notifications, so for the moment this feature is only available in the iOS app.

You can now opt-in to receive push notification reminders that will gently help you to stay on track just when you’re at risk of falling behind.

We’ve kept our notifications light, helpful, and infrequent. We’d encourage you to give them a try — to enable reminders, please open up the iOS app and do the following:

  1. Head over to Settings, then Manage Notifications
  2. Select Enable Notifications
  3. Accept Apple’s default notification prompt

That’s it! If you build meal plans, grocery shop, and cook at fairly regular intervals, you may never even receive a reminder from us.

We’re interested in hearing how these reminders work for you. Do you like them? How could they be better? Be sure to let us know.

Design & backend improvements

We’ve also made small improvements in a couple of different areas. Some Android users were reporting font issues on specific devices, which we’ve been able to fix.

We’ve also made improvements to how we handle Pro subscriptions in our backend systems. There’s nothing user facing here, but the whole system has become more robust, which we think is a great win for everybody.

More improvements are always around the corner and we’re excited to share them with you. We report all of them here, so keep an eye on our publication. As always, thank you for using Mealime!
