The reviews for the It Ends With Us movie are all over the place. Some love the book and movie. Others compare it to an after school special or soap opera. As someone close to the subject of domestic violence, I feel the need to defend the movie after reading the book. Whether we love the movie or hate it isn’t the point. It’s a conversation starter on a taboo subject that will ultimately save lives.
As a child abuse survivor, I am drawn to these types of books and movies that raise awareness on taboo subjects that are often swept under the proverbial rug. That is one of the reasons I publish books on these heavy subjects — to break the silence and break the cycle.
I watched the It Ends With Us movie all through the ending credits expecting Blake Lively or Colleen Hoover to come on to announce that if you or someone you know is being abused, you are not alone. There are organizations that will help you such as nomore.org who has partnered with them to help domestic violence victims.
