As a writer, I can’t help looking for the Hero’s Journey in everything I read or watch. Skywalkers: A Love Story doesn’t disappoint. This immersive documentary starts in medias res and hooks me immediately. Why are these daredevils risking their life or imprisonment for an adrenaline rush? It makes me wonder how high one would climb for love — love of sport, love of art, love of another, love of self? Lines blur in the extreme.
We’ve all heard opposites attract but the couple in Skywalkers, like the couple in Fire of Love, prove that you have more fun with common interests.
I found out about this documentary from a Facebook post my son-in-law made about it. He said it was “AWESOME” while my daughter called it “Dumb” because two people are illegally breaking into places to climb to the highest points in the world. Their different perspectives made me want to watch it. Plus, any show with the word “love story” in the title automatically gets my attention.
The biopic is about two people from Russia, Angela Nikolau and Ivan Beerkus, who turned climbing onto the rooftops of buildings…
