Jan Creasman has spent her life working with the people that most need government services. As a social worker, she has experience addressing the needs of the elderly, children, and everyone in between. She believes that society should invest in its government and citizens. Education, healthcare, worker protections and living wage, safety from gun violence, and the ability to vote with ease are all basic rights that Jan promotes.

I won’t lie to you — it’s going to be an uphill battle. We are in a very conservative part of the state, and my opponent has many years in the public’s eye. However, I believe we can win because Iowans are ready for a change. They are tired of politics as usual, and they want bold, progressive reform that help them rather than lining the pockets of our lawmakers. Stand with me in the fall, and I promise I will fight for you.

Her opponent, Matt Windschitl, is a caricature of extreme right wing views. He worked for years to successfully pass a “stand your ground” law that one Iowa county attorney called a “license to kill.” Windschitl based his bill on model legislation promoted by the conservative group ALEC. Forida’s “stand your ground” law, the one ALEC modeled their legislation off of, caused a 75% increase in “justifiable” homicides. Windschitl opposes gun control of any kind. He supports an amendment to the Iowa constitution that would prevent even licensing and registration. Windschitl also sponsored legislation to exempt lesbian, gay, and transgender students from anti-bullying protections.

Windschitl has won reelection five times. He ran unopposed two of those times. Jan Creasman has stood up to challenge him twice before, in 2008 and 2016.

Brave individuals like Jan hold lawmakers like Windschitl accountable. Help support Jan by donating to Measured Politics!
