Jean Simpson
Running for Iowa’s 92nd House District
Jean Simpson wants a better future for her seven grandchildren and all Iowans. She believes that the opportunities that she had growing up in Iowa are no longer available to young people. Jean points to multiple causes. Politicians cater to special interests. Republican policies created an economy that leaves many people behind. Schools and healthcare are underfunded.
Jean retired after 40 years as a social worker who focused on breaking the cycle of addiction and poverty. She has seen the havoc that results when health care is inaccessible and education is inadequate.
I want to work with Democrats, Independents and Republicans to take on the serious issues facing our state. We can all agree that we need good jobs, safe streets, and affordable healthcare, so let’s put party labels aside and work together to get things done for Iowans. I spent my career advocating for vulnerable populations, now the working class is becoming the vulnerable population. Enough is enough. I am ready to go to work for Iowa.
Former Iowa Democratic Governor, Martin O’Malley, called District 92 “a key seat for Democrats if they’re to win control of the Iowa House.” Democrats and Republicans have both held the seat within the past decade. Republican incumbent Ross Paustian lost the seat to a Democrat in 2012 only to regain it in the Republican wave elections of 2014. He supported harmful Republican legislation like the six-week abortion ban and the privatization of Medicaid. Paustian is not a friend to the environment in Iowa. The most notable legislation he sponsored was an attempt to repeal Iowa’s bottle deposit bill. The deposit ensures that 86 percent of Iowa’s beverage containers are recycled. Paustian is against a tax hike to fund water quality projects that 69 percent of Iowans support.
Jean is in an excellent position to appeal to her neighbors and win back this essential swing district. Help her do it by donating to Measured Politics!
