Mech Master Human: Anh Nguyen — Art Director

Mech Master is a blockchain game that features home base building, collecting giant fighting robots, and strategic turn-based combat. It is the first-ever 3D rendered blockchain game with these robots named Mecha. Creating a game is not a race; it is a marathon. This Spotlight Series will take you on tour to different teams that worked hard to make all Mechas come alive, what they do and how they do it. Behind the successful project is our Art Director, Anh Nguyen.

Meet Anh Nguyen — The Art Director of Mech Master

Anh Nguyen is a 2D concept artist with over 15 years of experience in 2D art. He worked and leveled up from large companies, like VCCorp, VTC, VNG to small studios and start-ups. He is a man full of unique ideas, looking to make truly interesting games. Let us look at how the project is going on.

Current Progress Of the Project

Anh Nguyen shared that the project is currently going very well, releasing the seven different Mecha races and their primeval models. It sets as a base for future Mechas to be released in the same format. The art team worked with a tremendous effort and went through many sketches to make sure the Mechas were unique and cool-looking. They are currently making polymorph and planning to come up with ideas for new Mechas and characters. Even when the current project of launching Mech Master is still ongoing, the art team has already planned new things they will be bringing to the game.

The Most Important Stage of Creating Mechas

The Art Director confidently said the pre-production stage — the phase where the whole team will come together and plan what they will be doing. Any significant changes will be decided during the planning stage and will set a stepping stone for the advancement of the Mech Master project. Since the 2D art team is the first to start work before any other teams, the planning stage must be handled swiftly and steadily. The project team began the pre-production stage from the early days of April and went through many sketches to form the 7 Mecha races today. The design team spent much time finding a good balance between the coolness of the traditional Gundam Mechas that everyone is familiar with and the practicality of Western Mechas like the ones in Transformers. Additionally, throw in some creative originality to make the Mecha special, and add some essence of futurism.

Early Sketches of the Mechas

The analytical Art Director said that a lot of good ideas were generated. They were ultimately trying to make the Mecha look cool but unique at the same time, to be Mechas that players will want to get their hands on. However, the ideas were ultimately scrapped via an elimination method to ensure the best choice was made.

Shed Some Light on the Mecha Equipment

Anh Nguyen stated that there are tons of equipment in the game, with a wide variety of weapons that are well suited for each type of Mecha. Each Mecha race has a unique equipment system created specifically for different races; for example, Legions use swords, and Aerials use spears. We are also testing to develop support equipment and unique features that will increase the versatility and adaptability of the Mecha on the battlefield and the play style of the players.

Mech Master Pilots

Anh Nguyen expressed that these companions can show some intimacy between the pilots and the Mechas. These giant fighting machines are constantly destroying the enemies on the frontline and defending the homeland. While behind the battlefield, these Mechas still require pilots that are humans to operate them. The pilots were created after the image of a strong military man and a beautiful female pilot. Players can feel more attached to their Mechas as these pilots are willing to give their lives to fight and defend their homeland. Similarly to the players’ childhood dreams of driving a giant Mecha and flying freely in space, fighting enemies for a purpose.

Future Updates on the Mechas

The current 7 Mechas are successful. The Art team will reference their planning and how they have made those Mechas to create even better and more unique giant fighting robots in each race. Every Mecha race matters and will have exceptional combat capabilities. At the same time, the Art team has started designing and drawing new Mecha ideas even while the current project is still ongoing. They showed how prepared they are to face any upcoming challenges of making Mech Master.

In conclusion, Anh Nguyen wants to thank the other teams for helping to make their drawings come alive into the Mechas that we know of today, and the Art team is proud of the progress of Mech Master. They promised more magnificent drawings are on the way.
