Isaac Asimov (January 2, 1920-April 6, 1992) was an American writer and biochemist born in Russia, best known for his prolific career as a science fiction writer, penning almost 500 novels.

Asimov was fond of learning from an early age. By the time he was 5 years old he already taught himself how to read.

He served at the Naval Aviation Experimental Station in Philadelphia during World War II, and after having earned his M.A. He was named as an associate professor of biochemistry at the Boston University School of Medicine and a Ph.D.

Early career Asimov was dominated by writing short storeys about science fiction. After the rejection of his first two works by John W. Campbell (his mentor and editor), Asimov eventually managed to sell his third one, entitled "Marooned off Vesta" (1938), to Amazing Stories Magazine.

But Nightfall (1941), I, Robot (1950)– later turned into a film starring Will Smith)– and the trilogy of the Foundation (1951) numbered him among the best sci-fi authors out there.

Although science fiction was his favourite genre, Asimov also wrote books on a broad range of topics, including astronomy, biology, mathematics, religion, and literary biographies.
