Chamomile Tea: Soothing and Health Promoting!

Chamomile tea is one of the herbal teas, having some amazing health benefits. According to umpteen people, a herbal tea, basically only looks like tea. It is also brewed in a similar way as tea, but actually, it is not a tea at all.

Same is the case with chamomile tea. It is not obtained from tea tree/plant (known as Camellia Sinensis). It is obtained from Chamomile plant and its flowers. It belongs to the asteraceae family of plants. The dried chamomile flowers (mainly the dried heads of these flowers are crushed/powdered and) are used to make the (brew) tea.

Some great benefits of chamomile tea are as follows,

1. Helps in inducing sleep: It contains certain bio-active compounds that help induce sleep and calms your system. It can help in falling asleep faster and also may improve your quality of sleep. Hence can be useful for people with restless or disturbed sleep.

2. Good for Digestion: Chamomile is in use conventionally for many gastrointestinal conditions, such as stomach upset, spasm or intestinal pain, gas, ulcers, digestive disorders and irritation in stomach and intestine.

3. Help relieve muscular pain in some amount: It not only induces sleep but also helps in relaxing you and your muscles. Also the anti-inflammatory properties in it may help relieve your muscular pain. Traditionally it has been used to ease menstrual cramps pain.

4. Help ease anxiety/stress: Its consumption may help in relieving the symptoms of anxiety and stress. Further research is required in this regard.

5. Anti-oxidant properties: Its anti-oxidative properties have some role to play in cancer prevention and management. May also be effective in maintaining healthy skin and promote healthy hair, due to presence of anti-oxidants.

6. Promotes Heart Health: Chamomile can help in improving heart conditions. However further research in this area is required.

7. Topical Application and Skin Care: Not only its consumption is good for your health bu also it’s topical application has shown to be curative and decrease the occurrence of wrinkles and blemishes on your face.

8. Osteoporosis: Chamomile extract help in improving the activity of cells that build bones. These cells are known as osteoblasts. Its consumption can assist in increasing the density of bones and may help in alleviating the damaging symptoms of osteoporosis.

There are believed to be many more health advantages of chamomile tea consumption but the research studies are still in their primitive stages, some are proven, however those are either test tube studies or performed on animals. More human studies are required to prove its effectiveness.
