APA Citation

Citing the source material correctly, regardless of the discipline, is important. Students taking humanities courses are usually required to follow MLA (Modern Language Association) guidelines. When it comes to taking science and research fields, the required format follows APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines. Even though most college lecturers and professors require either MLA or APA, there are those that will insist on Chicago Style or Turabian. Chicago Style or Turabian are frequently used by students studying either history or social studies courses.

MLA

The title used for MLA citation page(s) is “Works Cited.” Inciting a book, where there is a single author, shows the individual components as such:

Last Name, First Name. Title of Book. City of Publication: Publisher, Publication Date.

Note the book title is italicised.

If there are two authors, the second author is referenced with their first name and then their last name:

Last Name, First Name and First Name Last Name. Title of Book. City of Publication: Publisher, Publication Date.
