I Immediately Got Out of Curation Jail

As soon as I started following the rules…

Ever since I started this new profile I’ve enjoyed a healthy curation rate of my stories, usually in topics like ‘sexuality’, ‘relationships’, ‘LGBTQ’ and ‘dating’.

But then the thing that everyone has been up in arms about lately happened to me, too — I found myself in curation jail.

Suddenly, posts that I was sure would get curated based on the quality of the writing were being passed over almost immediately and I just didn’t understand why…

Until I read Medium’s curation guidelines again and started following the rules.

It seems that for a little less than a month I was breaking one of the cardinal rules of Medium curation:

I was adding a request for donations to my Ko-fi page and soliciting for money at the bottom of my posts!

Yeah.

It was a newb move, I thought to myself after the fact.

I only went to read the guidelines page after I had heard that you are no longer allowed to republish old content on your profile — something else that I had been doing that could get me banned from Medium altogether!
