Many artists and musicians seem to understand the power of hip-hop, but for some — it seems like their embrace of the culture is only temporary. We will be examining the recent comments from Billie Eilish and others.

One problem: I don’t really know who Billie Eilish is.

If I was a 16 year-old girl — maybe this would be alarming. I’m a 34 year-old man and I can tell you that I know she’s successful. I’ve seen her name a lot.

I had a friend once tell me that her songs were pretty good for a pop singer. I’ve seen part of the video for “Bad Guy” before to figure out what the fuss was about, and ended up switching to another video before it was over.

It’s not like this is about Eilish personally — I’ve been hearing the name “Selena Gomez” for over a decade. I wouldn’t be able to name a song from her.

I might be able to tell you that Taylor Swift made a song called “Shake It Off”, or that Katy Perry made a song called “Dark Horse” (the song included a Juicy J verse). That’s about it.
