China, Shrimp & COVID-19
Recently, Chinese medical authorities claim to have discovered evidence which indicates that the SARS-CoV-2 virus (the dangerous zoonotic pathogen behind the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic) could survive on and be transmitted via frozen seafood.
The “evidence” quoted by Chinese medical authorities was a packet of frozen shrimp imported from the South American nation of Ecuador. Although, this recent development fits (a bit too perfectly) in line with previous governmental claims pertaining to one of the methods of transmission for this dangerous strain of novel coronavirus (namely the claim that the Beijing outbreak originated from imported frozen salmon from northern Europe), there has been no independent evidence elsewhere in the world which indicates such a form of transmission (in fact, there’s quite a lot of reliable evidence which indicates the exact opposite).
