With the COVID-19 pandemic still in full swing, there is an increasing exponential trend in the global death toll associated with this deadly strain of novel coronavirus, however, this huge number is still an understatement in the grand scheme of things.

With most, if not all medical infrastructure and resources being reallocated to the global fight against the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, quite a lot of patients suffering from other dangerous diseases and infections are not receiving the required treatment they need. This has led to an unexpected increase in deaths caused by other diseases, this phenomenon is prevalent in some of the regions hit worst by this coronavirus-based dangerous respiratory illness.

In conclusion, this ongoing phenomenon is a clear indication that our existing healthcare systems aren’t designed for a pandemic of such a scale.
