As of the time of writing, the world is still in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, and many in the general public tend to forget of overlook news pertaining to other major diseases or infectious outbreaks. One such news story would be the recent cases of plague in Mongolia.

As reported by Mongolian health authorities, two siblings (aged 27 and 16) from the Khovd province in western Mongolia have been positively identified to have contracted a dangerous and extremely contagious strain of the plague after consuming the meat of a wild marmot. The local authorities are currently working to put in place a quarantine for all affected areas in this province as they’ve been able to identify hundreds of people who have come in first of second hand contact with the above-mentioned patients.
