New Comment Features, Custom Statuses, Notification Settings and More!
Restart your app or if you don’t have Medal yet, head to medal.tv and the latest version to get all these updates!
We have another update for you guys as a little gift before the holidays! We’re incredibly excited to show you our enhanced commenting system, custom profile statuses, and a bunch of other cool goodies!
Comment Sorting and Liking
We’re bringing clip engagement to the next level. In addition to the clip upvote function you already know and love, we’ve made it so you can upvote individual comments on both mobile and desktop. Did someone comment with a sick burn or slick pun? Let them know you lol’d by upvoting their comment. To make reading and sorting through heaps of comments an even better experience, you’re now able to sort comments by most ‘recent’ or most ‘popular’ based on how many upvotes they received.
Sharing your favorite Medal clips with your friends is easier than ever with our new tagging system. Did you find an insane goal or crazy squad wipe that your friend just has to see? Simply @ their username in the comments. Then our messenger pigeons will ensure they receive a notification so you can relive your favorite moments together.
Want to comment on a clip but words simply can’t convey just how much your mind has been blown? No problem fam, just send a GIF. Click on the GIF icon next to your comment and show everyone exactly how you’re feeling. To make sure we don’t flood your comments with giant images, GIFs shrink and expand on mouse-over to keep things looking c l e a n.
Watching a fail and want to commiserate with a similar experience? Or maybe you’re watching someone struggle with an ability and you want to help them out. What better way to express yourself than sharing relevant clips directly in the comments. Similar to the GIF system, the video shrinks and stops playing on mouse-over keeping things clean and the conversation flowing.
We get it. The internet can be a toxic and spammy. Now on Android and Desktop, if people are raging on your favorite plays or promoting things you just don’t care about, smack that delete button to make those comments disappear right into the ether. That’s right, you can delete any comments on your clips that aren’t conducive to the type of community you want to build. Just hover over any comment you want to delete, click on the hamburger menu and smash delete. Self moderation made easy.
Having a great day, looking for a game, or want to tell your friends what you’re feeling? Maybe you just want to be invisible and hide from DMs 👀? Well, now you can customize your profile status to do just that. Just click on your username in the top right corner of the screen to fill in your status and select one of the following availability options:
- Do not disturb
Status updates from anywhere on Medal can now be seen in the profile preview on Android.
With more social features being implemented, we want you to easily be able to manage what types of notifications you’re receiving on Medal. We’ve added a Notifications tab in your settings to quickly chose which types of notifications you want to be alerted about to tailor make your social experience.
More Options and QoL Improvements
We’ve made a number of quality of life improvements. One of the most noticeable being our clip feed optimization. Scrolling through clips and getting lost in highlights is more seamless than ever with a number of optimizations that the team worked hard on focusing on cutting down load times and laggy feeds.
Clip Library Options
If you’re anything like us, you have a ton of clips that need publishing, or in my case — deleting before I embarrass myself. We’ve added an option while selecting a clip or the “Manage Clips” button that allows for you to quickly ‘Upload’, ‘Delete’, or look at ‘More Options.’
More Options and Bulk Editing
Choosing ‘More Options’ will allow for you to manage all of your clip libraries with the ability to delete, publish, make public or un-list all of your clips.
2020 was a quite the year... Game’s have been an incredible way to bring people together and stay connected with your friends and the world during this crazy year. Taking a look back at where we started and where we are today, it’s crazy to see how much we’ve grown as a community. Today, we reached 30,000 members on our Discord alone. We’re excited to carry this momentum forward into 2021 and we can’t wait to share with you all of the exciting things we have planned!
