Update: Noise Reduction, Automatic Widescreen 16:9 Cropping, And more!

Another month, another Medal update! In this update we worked on some highly requested features to improve the way you take clips, edit them, and experience the Medal app! We added mic volume thresholds so your voice comes in crystal clear in your clips, the ability edit the clips you captured on your ultrawide screen into a standard format, and improved notifications! Sound good? We thought so too…let’s jump right into it!

Record your voice — without the background noise

Trying to capture your clips but your siblings keep fighting in the next room and you don’t want the mic to pick up their screeching? Don’t leave yourself on mute! Instead, head over to the settings page and adjust the mic sensitivity! There you can customize the volume thresholds so that your voice, and your voice only, comes in crystal clear!

To say goodbye to background noise, head over to Settings> Audio & Device > Turn Noise Cancellation On and adjust the sliders to ensure that your audio is perfect.

Play Ultrawide — Clip in 16:9

This feature is for all of you out there clipping with your ultrawide monitors. We know you’re tired of seeing your favorite gaming moments with those annoying black bars surrounding them. So are we! So go ahead, game on the widest of monitors, and we’ll automatically crop it to the 16:9 (aka standard) video format!

To automatically crop your gameplay, head over to Settings > Recorder > Advanced Recording > Video Aspect Ratio > Select “Crop to 16:9”

Notifications worth noticing

When you’re in the zone, notifications can often just look like a wall of text. We get that — so we changed up our notifications so you’ll be able to hone in easily on what’s going on! How? We redesigned notifications to include thumbnails of the action, time stamps, and to just generally be easier to read at a glance! To check it out, tap on the bell icon inside the Medal app 🔔 👀

Bug Extermination & Fixes

An update just isn’t complete without squashing some bugs and making some fixes! In addition to the awesome features we mentioned above, here’s a few more things you can look forward to this update:

  • We updated how Full Session Recording clips look in library while recording! You’ll see “Recording in Process” in your library so you know it’s working and you’ll never have to second guess if your gameplay is being recorded or not!
  • We updated the Add a Game process to show you what we think you’re trying to clip — and if the game you’re playing is not supported you can easily request it and jump right back into the action.
  • We moved “Enable Long Press to Start Recording” under Full Session Recording Settings & turn on by default — because that’s where it should have been all along…

We love hearing from you and we’d love for you to suggest new features. If you have any questions about this update or any other Medal feature, you can always contact support.

If you’re interested in testing out features before official releases make sure you head over to Medal Early Access:
