Taiwan LGBT Pride Parade
Yesterday (26 Oct.) was an important day for same-sex couples, Taiwan LGBT Pride. This is not the first year of Taiwan LGBT Pride parade but is the same year with the day Taiwan’s parliament legalizes same-sex marriage on 24 May. It’s a proud day for Taiwan that indicates how friendly and gender equality we are.
You might have no idea what LGBT means for. LGBT is the abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender which is derived from LGBT Pride month in United State since 1969. It is the month to celebrate the honor of the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in Manhattan. The Stonewall Uprising was a tipping point for the Gay Liberation Movement in the United States. Taiwan is not the only country doing the LGBT Pride Parade, there are lots of countries have a parade celebrating for gender equality and same-sex marriage.
It is a meaningful step for Taiwan to implement practically gender equality and respect LGBT’s love and right. However, there is still discrimination of same-gender love and shadows behind LGBT. They are still willing to step up and speak up to make more people understanding and to change Taiwan’s society, that is why the Taiwan LGBT Pride Parade so meaningful.
The 17th Taiwan LGBT Pride Parade and Taiwan LGBT took “Together, Make Taiwan Better” as their theme for this year which means living and standing with each other. On this day, we saw some shows and performances supporting the event during the parade. we also can find a rainbow line on the google map owing to google has been supported LGBT activities around the world since 2006.
Anyway, it is a kind of symbolic day in Taiwan History. Hoping people in the world get happiness and love.
