In this episode of meet the team, we meet Lead Embedded Developer and cycling enthusiast, Alex Mellers
Where are you from?
Rugby in Warwickshire, UK. I moved to Holmfirth, at the foot of The Pennines when I was 8. Since then, I moved and studied in Manchester and Newcastle.
What attracted you to join the team at MedEngine?
I had been working for an engineering consultancy, where I brought the average age down considerably, then Christian (an old school friend) spoke to me about his desire to grow the team at MedEngine. I jumped at the opportunity to work with a young team driven by a strong purpose.
So how did you become an Embedded Developer?
Well, it started at University where I studied Electrical Engineering. I then, gained experience working with electronics, utilising sensors in marine and warehouse environments. After that, I began writing software for embedded micro-controllers which made a good fit for the role here at MedEngine.
What would you say you are most proud of?
Other than my year 7 orienteering certificate…? I would have to say completing the Three Peaks Challenge for a Cancer Charity. It was a tough and enduring experience but for a very worthy cause.

What’s the best part of working at MedEngine?
The purpose behind the team. The idea of enabling people to better manage their health is pretty special.
Name 3 things that you couldn’t go without…
Curry, Radio 4 and the hope that one day, I’ll own the new Zelda game.

Another Country by James Baldwin
What skill would would you like to develop in the future?
I am keen to develop my decision-making and hope to someday learn Google’s programming language, Go!
