Where are you from? 🌍

Tehran, Iran and I’ve lived mostly in the US for the past 11 years.

How did you end up working at MedEngine? 😊

Last year, I found the list of Most Innovative Startups of Germany, published by Forbes and MedEngine was among the seven digital health companies on the list. That was how I first learned about it, followed by more research, which made me interested in the company.

How did you get into data science? 🔬

I am in the process of obtaining my master degree in data science at the UC Berkeley School of Information and wanted to gain real-world data science experience at an innovative medtech startup. So I reached out to MedEngine’s founders and leaders earlier this year, and fortunately, they were planning to hire interns this summer. We talked and it all worked out! That’s why I started working for MedEngine in early June.

What would you say you are most proud of? 🏆

I am happy that I’ve never been afraid of change, however radical and daunting it might look. For example, in 2017, I decided to apply for data science degree programs to take a break from work and go back to school, after having obtained two graduate degrees already.

Some friends suggested at the time it was too much (and I was too old for that!) and that it would be disruptive to my career. But regardless, because of my passion for machine learning and AI, I became a full-time student again in 2018 and am so happy now with that decision. It’s caused a significant change in my lifestyle (and income!) as well as my career path, but I’m not afraid of that.

Could you describe yourself in 3 words… 🤔

1. Extroverted Introvert
2. Determined
3. Unconventional 😉

What’s the best part about working at MedEngine? ⭐️

Working with a young and motivated group of people who think out-of-the-box to build something very exciting and, at the same time, super useful to people with Parkinson’s and their physicians. I’ve learned a lot in a short period of time about how decisions are made and things are done at an agile, early-stage startup that is building an innovative wearable device and AI applications…

Name 3 things you couldn’t go without… 🙌

1. My headphones (i.e. music: especially indie, experimental rock and electronic)
2. My passport — I have travelled to and lived in 7 different countries in the past year.
3. Cables to charge and connect my many gadgets and toys!

Do you have a favourite book? 📚

Most recent obsession: “My Struggle”, by Karl Ove Knausgård

Is there a skill you would like to learn or develop in the future? 🎓

Work-wise: product management. Other: playing percussion. 🎷
