We realized that even when not working in the traditional sense (clocking into the hospital), we still doing a lot of nursing tasks for friends/family/neighbors. Helping someone after surgery, answering questions about a diagnosis, setting up medication regimens, giving shots, etc. We get asked because sometimes we are the only nurse they know. Not everyone knows a nurse; I didn’t when I was going through In Vitro Fertilization treatments. I wanted to create an opportunity for everyone to be able to get the help of a nurse. I can’t tell you how many times I have corrected a potentially dangerous situation for someone. I also am more knowledgeable about some things more than others and not always the best person to ask, despite being a nurse.

Moreover, the need for extra medical support at home is increasing exponentially. Whether it be to help care for aging parents, helping recover after a surgery/procedure, organizing medications for the week, understanding what a doctor has told you, etc, we’ve all needed medical help at some point. Not everyone has a nurse they can call for reliable information or safe assistance. The new norm for our society is moving towards tele-health and outpatient models. Not every patient is willing or able to shoulder these extra responsibilities. It’s always good to have help and we want everyone to have reliable, safe access to it. We wanted a way to provide people with the peace of mind that the nurse they hire knows what they need to and can be trusted. On the other side of the coin, as rewarding as it is to help everyone when they ask, nurses don’t make a ton of money. To be able to use that knowledge base to support families a little more, it’s better for everyone.
