Linda Melvern is a British investigative journalist and author. Her on-the -ground reporting during crucial moments of the Rwanda Genocide for The Scotsman offered some of the earliest accounts of its unraveling, and revealed UN policy towards Rwanda at the peak of the tragedy.

She later served as a consultant to the Military One prosecution team at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. Her archived documents were used by the prosecution as evidence of the Genocide’s planning and progress.

Melvern has published numerous works on the Rwanda Genocide. Her books on the topic include A People Betrayed. The Role of the West in Rwanda’s Genocide (Zed Books, 2000) and Conspiracy to Murder: The Rwandan Genocide (Verso, 2004).

She will be speaking on the “Looking back at Rwanda: conflicting narratives” panel on Dec. 2.
