CIGI research associate and former journalist chairing Panel 6: Social Media — The New Media Actor Dec. 3, 8:30–10:00
Stephanie MacLellan is a research associate at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) in Waterloo, Ontario. She specializes in internet governance, cybersecurity and digital policy within the CIGI Global Security and Politics program. Her research focuses on how the internet and digital platforms, including social media, can enhance or diminish human rights, security and democracy.
MacLellan spent the first 10 years of her career working in journalism, including two years as an editor on the foreign desk at the Toronto Star, where she gained considerable insight into international news coverage and challenges facing journalism.
MacLellan will chair the Social Media — The New Media Actor panel on Dec. 3 from 8:30–10:00 a.m. She hopes to discuss how social media contributes to instability and consider policy options with her fellow panellists.
