compressing time and space with sport

I sat down with my friend Thilina and we began talking about sports and the surrounding culture. He told me about how cricket was essentially a religion in Sri Lanka. My first reaction was to (politely) interrupt him and ask if I could record the rest of our conversation for my capstone class, since I had just written a piece referencing a similar idea, but in regards to fútbol rather than cricket. As Thilina was telling me his experience with cricket and how important it is to his family, I realized that it was the same story that I had had with soccer fans from other countries. I was delighted to hear how his family reaches out to one another to stay connected, compressing time and space, to keep each other up to date about cricket. This is the idea that will be the focus for my paper, but for fútbol and F. C Barcelona.
