If you didn’t hashtag it, did anyone see it?

When writing a recent ethnographic vignette on the relationship between activism and “being seen” doing activism on social media, I was curious about what certain hashtags would look like on social media platforms. I decided to check out Instagram and was surprised by what I found. It’s not that the images were better or worse, they were different. Many of the images in the “top posts” category often seemed unrelated to the hashtag. I find it interesting and neither to confirm or deny the questions that I have been asking.
