The Game Makers is a documentary series “ that explores the unique process of storytelling, design and directing in the constantly evolving industry.” Although my research focuses more on student based games rather than professionals, this trailer for the series does help explore a crucial aspect of my project: motivations. The series was created to be a source of inspiration for “a new generation of storytellers,” so how exactly do these creators inspire the students I am working with? What is the creative drive that puts these creators into this field? Why are they here? What are they trying to create? Is it the intention of “ expanding your experience as a human being”? Or perhaps “It’s about building a place that is detailed and inhabited, but also allows for a sense of escapism.” Regardless, as the trailer says, “behind every great game, is a great story”, and I intend on finding what the story is for the subjects of my research.
