A French Flaneur is a a literary type from the 19th century France, essential to any place on the streets of Paris. He’s described as a man of leisure, sometimes referred to as an idler, urban explorer, connoisseur of the street. In other words he pays no attention to time, the day or the months of the year. He simply lives in the moment and embraces his surroundings. In this assignment I have three digital devices I can see the Flaneur using to his own advantage while strolling in the streets.

Smart Phone/ Snapchat Spectacles:

Since the Flaneur is an expert of his surroundings these spectacles would ideally be the best thing for him as far as recording and studying the streets. Like everyone he’d would need a smart phone in order to use the spectacles but because of his commitment to his environment he would absolutely revel in this way of capturing everything. The only downside is he can only record 10 second videos with these but instantly share them with his friends and family!

The Go Pro Video Camera:

It’s said in the description he is a man of leisure and good taste. That being said he’d love to capture every city, alley way, street corner with the evolutionary Go Pro camera! It would be interesting to see what exactly he would capture and thus eventually when he’s done recording he could upload the videos to Youtube or a private video sharing website and share among his friends and family members!

The Apple Watch:

The last digital object that the French Flaneur would make use of is the apple watch. Since back in the 19th century it was difficult to keep track of the total distance you walked or ran. With this device this would him to keep track of his total steps and miles — thus promoting him to keep doing what he does best — strolling.

The French Flaneur is described to be a stroller, lounger, loafer, a active individual who appreciates life and the little things. He simply loves to navigate freely, have no real plans or schedules, and thus is a natural down to earth traveler.
