Women and financial inequality

Many of us won’t have an answer to the question of whether women have an important position financially. Even in financial meetings and deals regarding lands and other financial assets, women lack authority to be a part of it. Wherever we see its male dominance. Only a financially able women has the power to control the transactions within the family. Now let us explore the concept of wage gap. India has the 87th rank in male-female wage gap (Reference:http://www3.weforum.org/docs/WEF_GenderGap_Report_2012.pdf). For the same profession and same job, women get a lesser wage than men. Where do you see equality in this? Even in the maternity leave which she deserves, she is forced to work. Financial freedom is still a dream for most women even now. She can only be empowered after she gains financially freedom. Now let us talk about issues regarding land and property. Most of the women do not have land of their own. According to the Panda Agarwal report of 2005, among the ladies with no lands and properties of their own, 84% suffer from physical abuse, 49% mental abuse (Reference: https://www.oxfamindia.org/blog/1209/data-and-discrimination-womens-ownership-assets-india). Along with other rights, a woman needs to possess the right to own lands which would truly empower her.
