Welcome to the Medium publication for Media Theory and Criticism (MSCM 320) for Spring 2018! This is where you will post your three short articles, and where you will read and comment on articles written by your classmates.

If you haven’t already taken a look around Medium, I encourage you to do so before you post your first story. Find a topic that interests you and read some articles on that topic. This will give you a better sense of how to write for our publication.

Remember that your articles will be critiques (which can be either praise or criticism) of some kind of media content, preferably something currently available, in which you will apply concepts and theories that we have covered in our class to your analysis of the media content. The media content can be in the form of journalism (news), entertainment or advertising. I hope you will include links, images, videos, audio files, illustrations and/or infographics in your articles. Be sure to read the assignment carefully for the rest of the instructions, the grading rubric and the group assignments (Group A and Group B).

The goal of this assignment is for you to use both your professional skills in writing and online media production and your media theory knowledge to create and comment on online articles. This assignment connects to learning outcomes #1 and #2 shown on the course syllabus.
