Oh so you’re after some new headphones huh? Let me guess…you just purchased a new phone and it’s missing the headphone jack? Or maybe someone in your office has gone wireless and you have major FOMO?

Don’t stress, I’ve compiled a list of what I think are the top wireless headphones you can buy in 2017. I’ll befocusing on over-the-ear headphones which allows for better sound quality, better noise cancellation and better battery life but are usually slightly larger and maybe not so good for sports etc. These will be perfect for your daily commute, office life or even when you’re chilling around home. If you prefer something a bit smaller most of the brands below offer a variety of headphone types e.g. in-ear or on-ear.

The Rating System™

Everyone is different when it comes to headphones so when I reviewed these I judged them on the following: comfort, aesthetics, affordability, quality and battery life. From that i’ll score them out of 10. It’s then up to you to choose a winner.

BackBeat PRO 2 SE — Plantronics

I highly rated the original BackBeat PRO’s and the updated version is even better. With a 24hr battery life you’ll instantly fall in love. The design is great, they’re lightweight so no ear fatigue (that’s a thing right?) and have intuitive on-ear controls. They also come packed with smart tech, for example if you take these off while listening to music they’ll instantly pause and then continue to play again when you put them back on (trust me this is so handy). You can even connect Siri and take phone calls!

Score: 8/10
Price: $249 USD

HD1 MOMENTUM — Sennheiser

If you’re a a bit of an audiophile and don’t mind dropping a little bit of cash then you’ll be eyeing these up. Sennheiser has perfectly integrated wireless technology into one of its most popular pair. With high quality materials like pure leather and stainless steal as well as super clear sound they are definitely a strong contender when purchasing new headphones. They come packed with all the good stuff like 20+hrs of battery life, a built in microphone plus bluetooth 4.0 and NFC for easy setup. The downside though is that slightly higher price tag.

Score: 7/10
Price: $499 USD

Beats Studio3 Wireless — Apple

Apple quietly released these only days before the iPhone 8 announcement and if you’re a fanboy like me you probably lost your shit. They not only come in 6 very nice colours to suite your style (that matte black though) they’re also loaded with the latest in wireless and noise cancelling technology. With pure ANC you wont be able to hear anything but your tunes when on and you can keep them on for over 22hrs or if in low power mode even 40hrs! The Beats line often gets criticised for its low quality but we’ll have to wait and see with Apples latest release (shipping Oct).

Score: 7.5/10
Price: $349.95 USD

QuietComfort 35 — Bose

It’s hard to ignore headphones made by a company that makes devices for pilots and armies (seriously people driving tanks wear these). The QC35’s are probably the most comfortable pair of headphones you’ll wear, they’re lightweight and have a minimal design. They offer a “unmatched” battery life of 20hrs and with a quick 15min charge you’ll get an extra 2.5hrs. They of course come with insanely good noise cancellation and if purchased online can be completely customised. Maybe not as hi-tech as the others but that can sometimes be a good thing.

Score: 8/10
Price: $329.95 USD

MDR-1000X — Sony

Ok so they get 0/10 for the name but don’t let that rule them out.
The MDR-1000X’s have amazing reviews and have even won the odd award. They feature industry leading noise cancellation and some of the best sound quality you can get from wireless headphones thanks to LDAC. The design is classic Sony. Clean, minimal and luxurious. The also come with a clever thing called NC Optimiser, the headphones will learn your wearing style and preferences and adjust automatically — all that for under $400 #winning

Score: 9/10
Price: $399.95 USD

All of these headphones look amazing and offer great features but at the end of the day it comes down to your personal requirement and taste. Choice a pair that you like the look of and will feel comfortable wearing. Or if you prefer sound quality over aesthetics then use that to help you decide.

If you think I’ve missed a pair that should be on the list let me know or if you own a pair, leave a comment below and let me know what you think.
