Kano, Nigeria, Wednesday, December 9th, 2020 — Leading talent recruitment agency, Jobberman recently visited Kano to train youths between the ages of 18–35 on employability and soft skills needed in today’s job market.

These trainings are part of the efforts of Jobberman x Mastercard Foundation to train 5 million youths and place 3 million of them in dignified work in the next 5 years; with key focus on Kano, Kaduna and Lagos.

The superb team of 7 visited 3 key locations — Skyline University, Sa’adatu Rimi College and the NYSC camp. The youths were educated on employability skills and the importance of soft skills in today’s market. The facilitators comprised of 5 Jobberman representatives and 2 volunteers who hail from Kano as well and were also certified in Jobberman Soft Skills; the trained became the trainers.

Sa’adatu Rimi College was the main focus for the northern penetration, with over 500 students in attendance. It was a two-day event majorly hosted by the volunteers who taught the audience in English and Hausa. The sessions were interactive and insightful; key lecturers from the college were also in attendance to support the training sessions and learn a thing or two.

The Jobberman team were set to impact as many lives as possible in the little time they had — their visit to the NYSC camp in Kusala Dam, Karaye, Kano was one to remember. The facilitators educated the youths present on employability skills, the importance of soft skills and the major role it would play in their job market penetration. The facilitators also encouraged the corpers to sign up on the Jobberman Soft skills training platform; the IT department supported this by sharing the links to all corpers on ground.

Skyline University was a very insightful gathering of great minds; students signed up on the Jobberman Coursera platform and enrolled for the course immediately. It was interactive, educative and open. The team also engaged stakeholders from different top organisations in Kano such as Amneef Multi-Purpose Society, Brandprenuer NG, Startup Kano, Creative Helping Need Foundation, and Startup Kano; these partnerships will help Jobberman connect with more youths and create more impact. The Head of the Youth and Engagement and Learning, Precious Ajoonu, also stated that “Kano and Kaduna are of strategic importance as they are two of our core focus states with dynamic youth engagement potential. The northern youths have so many untapped talents and skills, and our mission to upskill them using our localized yet globally competitive soft-skills curriculum which will equip young people with the employability skills needed to thrive in the 4th industrial revolution. We look forward to more strategic partnerships with key Northern stakeholders as we consolidate efforts towards achieving our shared impact goals. We have learnt a lot on this trip and plan to have a strong Northern presence in 2021 and beyond. This is just the beginning!”

Jobberman is currently sealing more partnerships as they gear up to take the north by storm in 2021. Youths are the future of this great country and they can only do well for it when they are equipped with the right skills and provided with the right support.
