[ANN] MediBloc in Korea, Samsung, and SNU Hospital Selected by Government for MyData Project

On May 16, Dr. Eunsol Lee and Dr. Allen Wookyun Kho, CEO and co-founders of MediBloc in Korea, attended the launching ceremony of MyData project held at Korea Data Agency.
MediBloc Korea, which builds a patient-centered healthcare data platform, has formed a medical consortium with Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance, Seoul National University Hospital, CHA University Hospital, and WELT. This consortium was also selected as the final project provider for the ’MyData project’ led by the government.
In 2019, South Korean Government announced that it will invest a total of $8.88 million(10 billion KRW) into the MyData project in the specific five industries of finance, communications, energy, trade, and healthcare to support the development of personalized data services that individuals can leverage. MyData project is to strengthen the individual’s right to self-determination and to help the individual who is the owner of the data to receive his or her own information or allow third parties to use it. Furthermore, we are in the process of revitalizing the data economy by establishing a service environment in which individuals can safely use the data agreed upon by the individual.
The healthcare sector is one of the areas where data system innovation is most needed and is receiving the greatest attention among the five areas of MyData project. Because the healthcare field for MyData project was the first this year, many healthcare institutions and leaders have been interested in this project. Although the consortiums were formed and supported by a number of leading healthcare institutions and corporations, a consortium composed of MediBloc Korea and Samsung Fire & Marine Insurance was finally selected and received 1 million dollars. MediBloc was selected for such a high competition because MediBloc’s vision of building a patient-centered healthcare data platform and the aim of MyData project were in the same direction. There was also a positive evaluation of the progress of MediBloc to create the best practices for the blockchain-based healthcare data platform. Since MediBloc is the sole blockchain technology company in the healthcare sector for this project, it is expected to contribute much to MyData project.
This project is already in progress and we will present a number of services by November of this year. The MediBloc Korea consortium develops services for 7 months, including ‘healthcare check and information exchange services based on blockchain technology’, ‘participation in clinical research’, ‘health promotion coaching based on lifelog data and medical record’, and plans to operate these as well.

The healthcare sector is one of the leading areas where blockchain technology is best utilized to secure ’data integrity’, which is the most important feature needed in healthcare data. Through the MediBloc platform, patients can take back ownership of their healthcare data and record, storage, and distribute all the healthcare data as necessary. Furthermore, based on this trustworthy data, you can benefit from improved personal healthcare and Precision Medicine.
At the ceremony, Dr. Lee said, “MyData project exactly matches the business direction that MediBloc in Korea is aiming at, and I am very pleased to be selected for this project. We will focus on creating new value by linking individual health data, that is treated as the most sensitive information and hard to use, so that the patient can appropriately and safely utilize health data through this project.” and, “Through this project, we plan to develop a healthcare data platform that can make people feel and contribute to technology development and public health promotion.”
