MediBloc will soon launch South Korea’s first Vaccine Pass service. This service will confirm each user’s vaccination history via Medipass, the personal medical information platform, and will employ blockchain-based decentralized identifiers (DID), an innovative form of digital ID.

Given the scope of world travel these days and the dire problems posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the need for proof of a traveler’s vaccination history is key to rebuilding our global community. Such proof will play a vital role in establishing a collective immune system while helping restore regular overseas travel and economic revitalization. To that end, MediBloc will launch its Vaccine Pass service and allow users to conveniently manage and check their inoculation history, including for COVID-19, as registered with the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and partner medical institutions.

MediBloc’s DID will follow the standards of W3C, a prominent international research organization in the field, and has officially been registered. Users will be able to verify the authenticity of their vaccination history by using the MediBloc blockchain Panacea DID function. This DID-signed certificate of inoculation, backed up by information providers such as partner medical institutions, can be stored on a user’s mobile devices and shared externally only with the user’s authorization, ensuring reliability, security, and convenience. Afterwards, institutions and individuals who have shared data related to a user’s vaccination history can easily use the DID to determine whether the data has been tampered with or compromised.

Dr. Allen Wookyun Kho, co-founder of MediBloc said, “Certificates issued on paper have a high risk of forgery, and there are stark limitations in terms of face-to-face situations, plus there’s the inconvenience of keeping and sharing them practically. With the safe and secure Medipass Vaccine Pass, we expect that we can help boost the economy and help everyone get back to normal life much sooner.”

MediBloc plans to officially launch the Vaccine Pass service in Medipass in April after confirming various aspects of the service during a test period with coronavirus treatment hospitals, senior general hospitals, and hospital-grade medical institutions. The MediBloc team hopes that the Vaccine Pass service will make it easier for everyone to improve the accuracy and efficiency of their medical information, and we will of course always continue to develop patient-centered medical information solutions to build an innovative paradigm and help create a world where everyone can live a healthy and productive life.

Thank you!
