III. A World Imagined by MediBloc in Korea

2) Digital Healthcare Data Wallet

It’s 2017, and the world is moving fast.

The world is constantly changing and presenting people with convenience and efficiency. Various technological advances have made us forget about innovative tools that existed even just a couple of decades ago. And throughout the years, society has always faced conflict with adapting to new technologies. Generations argue over sticking with the old vs. embracing the new. Looking back at when the new heating boiler was introduced in Korea, early adopters of the new technology could live more comfortable and warm winters while those who were skeptical and rejected it seemed to get into arguments between generations because they stubbornly stuck with the traditional heating system.

The smartphone is just one example that benefit early adopters. Nowadays, we cannot imagine the world without smartphones. However, there are still cell-phones or “flip phones” that are still being sold in the market, which implies that some of the older generations are still facing difficulty adapting to smartphones. Personally, it pains me to watch my own grandparents using old cell-phones (even though they claim that they have the upgraded version). Because I know that we can get access to unimaginably large number of information, just by knowing how to use a smartphone, and that their livelyhoods and quality of life can be improved. (Of course I am aware about the negative effects that smartphones can have).

A few months back, I took my grandmother to the ophthalmologist for a cataract surgery. She’s more than 90 years old now and as her grandchild, I was very worried about the surgery. During the visit, the most absurd moment happened at the most unexpected time.

‘Are you taking any medication right now? What are some previous medical procedures/ surgeries you had?’

When the nurse asked this to my grandmother, she did not have the exact answer to the question. She struggled to recall and we were finally able to provide that information after calling my mother and finding out about the medication and treatment information. I thought to myself, ‘with all the innovative technologies we have, smartphone and personal devices, is there still no way to track our medical history?’ ‘Why is it so difficult to answer these repetitive questions that get asked every time I visit the hospital?’ And finally, ‘Is there no way to quickly and accurately transfer my healthcare data?’

Many people are suffering from repeatedly being asked about the same healthcare related question.

Even when I visit the hospital, I often forget about my medical history, but I can’t image how much more difficult it will be for the elderly. This could cause dangerous duplicate prescriptions or combining of drugs. At the end of the day, I should be the owner of my healthcare data, but that is not the case right now.

Unfortunately, there are no policies set in place to solve this issue.

There may be some services, like the DUR, but it still requires a lot of complex procedures. My grandmother was in a fortunate situation where those around her could help her cope through any problems, but not a lot of people have the same privilege.

MediBloc is designing.

With MediBloc, healthcare data will be centrally integrated.

We imagine a day when the history of personal medical data can be properly stored and more advanced medical procedures can take place with that information. No more days where you are too busy to take them to the hospital, having to constantly worry in the back of your mind, ‘Did they tell the doctor the correct medication they were prescribed?’ ‘did the medical procedure go well?’

MediBloc in Korea can help you and your family record, store and share healthcare data, medical conditions, and more.

Of course, all healthcare information are approved by verified practitioners. Even information that you might have forgotten can be recorded and accessed. I am confident that this can prevent any losses caused by duplicate prescriptions, from personal to a larger social scale. ‘In an emergency situation, will my doctor know exactly what medications I am taking?’ ‘I want to know my medical records to get a different medication prescribed.’ No there is no need to be confused or scramble for your personal medical information. By using MediBloc effectively, medical data that is stored on the platform with rid of all ‘what if’ questions related to your health.

“Personalized medical Secretary” created through MediBloc will improve the quality of your life.

We promise a fast, reliable and transparent health care data system that satisfies both patients and practitioners.
