The Mighty Medical Writer — What Do Medical Writers do?
I find Medical Writers have an interesting mix of skills. Medical Writers can be described as a translator, a linguist, a researcher, a storyteller, a copywriter, an educator, and a curator.
‘What does a Medical Writer do? What is Medical Writing?’ Google has over 3 billion search results for these questions combined. Yet, when someone asks me, “so what do you do for a living”, I’ve only met one person who actually nodded when I told them that I’m a Medical Writer — just 3 days ago in fact, over my decade-long career.
So here’s my first post on Medium and I thought I’d put together what I hope to be a thought-provoking answer to what is Medical Writing, and what does a Medical Writer do.
Imagine you’re in a vast virtual library filled with books, magazines, and basically any form of media written in what seems to be a foreign and complex language where every fifth word is a body part you’ve never heard of or is ‘sesquipedalian’ drug name that you have to Google its pronunciation.
