December 2019 sees the 30th anniversary of the unveiling of the Medical School Mural, a panoramic history of the School of Medicine, painted by Leeds artist Brian Holmes.

The mural is painted on four panels and hangs in the Health Science Library on Level 7 of the Worsley Building.

The mural was designed to acknowledge the School’s history and development and illustrates the buildings, individuals and achievements of the School, set against a backdrop of development of the city of Leeds, providing a colourful and vivid picture of the School’s history.

The four panels each focus on a phase of the School’s development, from its foundation to its present site on the University campus. It was unveiled in 1989 in the Student Common Room on Level 7, and later moved, due to redevelopment, some fifteen years later, to its present location.

The mural may be viewed whenever the library is open and in early 2020 there will also be a small anniversary exhibition.
