You can now claim your insurance benefit online with Specsavers
In an Australian first, consumers with private health insurance no longer have to pay up-front for their online optical purchases.
When purchasing goods online, such as contact lenses, consumers have been required to pay the full cost out of pocket first, then contact their private health insurer to raise a claim and receive payment. In an age when consumers are accustomed to digital solutions that enable seamless checkout experiences, this process is frustrating and inefficient.
We are Medipass, an Australian fintech based in Melbourne, with a focus on digital payments in healthcare. We have spent the past two years working with HICAPS and the health industry to develop a solution that enables consumers to purchase goods online and instantly claim their benefit, and this solution is now live.
Now when you buy contacts online, if your fund fully pays for an item, you are never out of pocket.
This is a significant benefit for Australians, who no longer have to unnecessarily pay for services upfront or spend time manually claiming from their fund.
Specsavers are the first integration partner to enable the new instant online claiming solution. Customers can now purchase contact lenses from the Specsavers online store and select ‘Pay using Medipass’ to instantly claim their health insurance benefit.
How the solution works:
- Consumers shop at online stores who support Medipass. Our first partner is Specsavers.
- Consumers select ‘Pay using Medipass’ and then enter their Private Health Insurance and Credit Card details to finalise the payment.
- Medipass uses the HICAPS platform to connect to participating health funds.
