Gender stereotypes. Think about the problems that come with it, and more importantly, think about how it affects our society. Sheryl Sandburg, COO of Facebook, sets up another way of looking at feminism in a manner that motivates women to step up and take on challenging job opportunities that men usually take.

Raised in a Jewish household, Sandburg was always focused in her studies, and she received her Bachelor’s degree in economics at Harvard University. There she formed a Women in Economics and Government organization with her mentor, and eventually she won her MBA, or Masters of business Administration, at Harvard business school.

In 2008 Sandburg was hired by Facebook to become the chief operations officer, and she made it possible to make Facebook profitable. All her experiences lead her to write her own book in 2013 titled, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. Soon enough her book was one of the nation’s bestsellers, selling at about one million copies.

Her book is an inspiration for many women to take part making our society better. She points out that there is a lack of women in government and business leadership jobs, and her goal is to get that to change. As the COO of Facebook, Sandburg wants to reach out to her female audience and motivate them to achieve their career goals just how Sandburg achieved hers, and prove the gender stereotypes wrong. She argues that there needs to be change in our society and show everybody that women can stand up and take leadership jobs just like men. The way to achieve this change is to get many women to break the barriers of social discrimination, like prove stereotypes wrong and become successful in their workplace.

Sandburg mentions a couple of her ideas back in 2010 during her TED talk. The problem she states out is that women are not making it to the top of any profession anywhere in the world. She proposes a number of solutions to get women motivated so they could be at the top of their job. Her ideas mentioned in the video are what ultimately come up later in her book, Lean in. She believes in creating a world where women contribute and play a role in our society. Her words inspire many women who struggle to understand their capability and strength to overcome gender inequality and strive to take a position of leadership. Sandburg’s argument helps combat gender inequality, and I look up to her ideas because she is true leader, and many should follow in her footsteps.
